Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

The Creepy Line selected at Fort Lauderdale Film Festival 171k24

The 35th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival takes place from November 5-22, 2020. This year’s festival takes a hybrid format but still features all of your festival favorites—great films, behind-the-scenes chats with filmmakers, and parties celebrating movie magic—in a variety of venues to accommodate social distancing and keep you safe: in-theater films, drive-in movies, a boat-in event, dinner-and-a-movie at local restaurants, and virtual screenings and events online.

Let us hear from our friend: FLIFF founder and executive director Gregory von Hausch:  1h1b5u

How to FLiFF, 2020 Edition: 2u59t

Normally, before there was a pandemic… even when we were dealing with the coming terror of Y2K, I would just say, “It’s as easy as going to the movies.”

And though it’s not rocket science, there are certain procedures to follow this year to make your FLIFFing Fun.

HOW TO SEE THE FILMS

Almost all of the Features and Docs will have one live screening—usually, but not always—in both Savor Cinema and Cinema Paradiso.

Most, but not all, Features will be offered virtually (you can see at home). All of the Docs are offered that way, as well as the Shorts (but the Shorts are not offered at the cinemas).

We will have a couple Drive-Ins, one Boat-In and several (10?) Dinner & A Movie events at various restaurants.

AT THE CINEMA

We ask that you purchase tickets in advance online. This is for safety and convenience. We will avoid lines at the box-office, and as the attendance at Savor and Cinema Paradiso will be at 50% capacity (meaning 125 & 41 respectively) by mandating in advance only, you won’t journey to the cinema only to be turned away.

This goes for Dinner & A Movie, as well as The IMAX.

VIRTUAL CINEMA

This one is fairly easy. Just log on at your convenience and buy your film. You will have a generous window of opportunity to view it. Some Virtual films have a limited availability window to purchase. Meaning, it may only be available for an 8-day period.

DINNER & A MOVIE

We will be selling tickets online that will include the restaurant and movie ticket charge. Once you get to the restaurant, you may elect to add drinks or whatever, and of course, you need to deal with the restaurant on that.

OPENING NIGHTS SAVOR

We will have two nights Nov 5 & 6 for Opening. The Opening Night Film, THE COMEBACK TRAIL, will be followed by a party at The River House. We are arranging for a Water Taxi to take you there and back…or you can drive. Obviously, you need to pick the night you want to attend and get your ticket. If you are a Executive Producer or Superstar member, you also must decide. Keep in mind, if you reserve and do not show, that will eliminate your chance to catch it the next night, and seriously put future reservations in jeopardy.

OPENING NIGHT CINEMA PARADISO

THE COMEBACK TRAIL will also play at H on Nov 5 & 6. At press time we are debating what we will do “special” at those screenings.

DINNER & A MOVIE

FLIFF will present several nights at various restaurants. You will buy your ticket in advance.  Holders will get the film for free, and just pay for the meal.

CENTERPIECE FILM

The documentary, SCO, will be our Centerpiece on Nov 13 at Savor and Nov 14 at H. As with all films, tickets are limited and we recommend you get them asap.

BOAT-IN MOVIE

The Boat-In Movie is scheduled for Saturday, Nov 14th at The Coral Ridge Yacht Club. You must be in boating position by 5:30pm at the latest. The Coast Guard will assist in getting you to your assigned square of water.

DRIVE-IN MOVIE

We plan to have Drive-Ins on Oct 30, Nov 7, 12, 13 & 21. Details to follow.

CLOSING NIGHT FILM

ANCIENT CAVES will play Sunday Nov 22, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm at the Museum of Discovery & Science’s IMA Theater. There will be a 75 minute afterparty following each film. Please be cool and depart by the end so we can setup for the next crowd. A different color wristband will acknowledge which party you are to attend (and which you are not to).
